Carice TC2: A nostalgic twist on electric convertibles

In the realm of electric vehicles (EVs), the Dutch EV manufacturer Carice is offering a unique blend of retro charm and modern technology with its Carice TC2 two-seater convertible. Founded in 2011 as a spinoff from the Delft University of Technology, Carice has been known for producing electric cars in small, made-to-order batches. The TC2, their latest offering, stands out for its distinctive style and lightweight design, appealing to those who yearn for a touch of nostalgia in their EV experience.

The TC2’s design is a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary, reminiscent of iconic models like the Porsche 356 and the Nissan Figaro. Its dimensions are compact, measuring 3,500 mm in length, 1,580 mm in width, and 1,220 mm in height. This lightweight vehicle, tipping the scales at a minimum of 590 kg, owes its featherlike quality to the proprietary composite material used for the body panels.

Carice offers flexibility in terms of battery options for the TC2. Buyers can choose between standard- and long-range battery packs, which provide ranges of 200 km and 300 km per charge, respectively. Charging efficiency is impressive, with a 2.7-hour charge via a Type 2 port replenishing 80% of a fully depleted battery.

Performance-wise, the TC2 is equipped with an electric motor driving the rear wheels, boasting a peak power of 41 kilowatts. This setup enables the car to reach an electronically limited top speed of 120 km/h. While specific acceleration figures are not provided, Carice CEO Richard Holleman emphasizes the vehicle’s exhilarating driving experience, attributed to its low seating position, low center of gravity, and favorable power-to-weight ratio.

A 2.7-hour charge using the Type 2 port can recharge the Carice TC2’s battery from 0 to 80%.

The TC2’s interior design is another aspect that blends classic and modern elements. It features vegan leather upholstery, a brushed-stainless-steel dashboard complete with toggle switches, and a hardwood steering wheel, creating a luxurious and timeless ambiance.

As with previous models, the TC2 is being produced in limited quantities, with the current production run already sold out. However, a few spots remain for the next batch, expected to ship in the coming months. The starting price for the Carice TC2 is €44,500, approximately US$49,050.
